You need a lawn mower that is in good working condition to be able to maintain your lawn in an immaculate condition. Troubleshooting lawn mower parts can be difficult because there are many parts and many reasons why the mower will not work.

It is always good to know the basics of any machine you own and to be able to fix the minor malfunctions without interrupting the work for any long period of time. It is the same with the lawn mower; small malfunctions need immediate fixing or the lawn either gets cut very badly or not at all. A word of advice, before attempting to troubleshoot lawn mower parts that are not functioning, turn off the engine and remove the spark plug; always wear protective goggles and gloves. Now you are ready to roll up those sleeves and get started!

Step one in any troubleshooting process is to make an assessment and decide whether the machine is worth repairing or should it be trashed.

Let us start with the engine which refuses to start. It could be one of two things, one, as simple as being out of fuel or two, problems with the ignition. If it is the fuel, here are some tips you should keep in mind; use the right mix of oil and gasoline and mix well before filling the mower. Use old fuel in the car, don't store it over the winter; buy fresh for the next spring season. When storing gas always ensure it is put in an airtight container in a cool dry place far from heat and any sparks.

If it is not the fuel you can check the spark plugs; remove the spark plug and ground the "hex" part of the plug to a bare metal part of the mower, now spin the engine, a blue spark should jump out, if there is a good strong spark the ignition is not the problem. If on the other hand the spark is weak you will have to get a new spark plug, check for spark before installing.

In this manner you will need to check all the lawn mower parts to make sure they are in good working condition.
